Subject Fields

We are using subjects to track specific things, like the people, organizations and laws mentioned in a document, but not big picture topics, which we will use tags for.

Format

People's names should be rendered LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. If you are not sure about the proper format for a person's name, check the Library of Congress Name Authority File and the Virtual International Authority File. Do not include dates in the subject terms. Make sure that you include diacritical marks when needed.

Organizations should be rendered first in their native language, and then in English, in parenthesis. If you are not sure about the translation of some names, consult the spreadsheet created for Volume 4. Make sure that you include diacritical marks when needed.

Laws should indicate the country first, then the title of the law and the date. If you are not sure, check Wikipedia or Google Books to try to locate the actual name.
